In factories throughout the city of Flint, a legion of mages, engineers, and shipbuilders have finally concluded months of ceaseless toil. Now well-wishers from across the nation have come to witness the launch of the world's mightiest vessel of war: the R.N.S. Coaltongue, impervious to spell and cannon and armed with fire that could slay even a dragon. On the docks, Risuri constables keep a close eye on celebrants and troublemakers; in the shadows, conspiracy and betrayal threaten this technological titan on its maiden voyage.
Meanwhile, on an isle in the lush Yerasol Archipelago, Risur's traditional enemies unearth ancient ruins while crafting a metal masterpiece of their own. Cloaked in layers of secrecy, their designs creep toward completion, unknown to the outside world. But when a band of rookie constables thwarts the sabotage of the Coaltongue, the traitors responsible flee to that same hidden island, threatening to reveal the dangers that lie at the axis of the world.
