Scattered throughout the astral, lost in pocket dimensions, hidden on demi=planes, are remnants of planar touchstones. Once protected and monitored, they were absolute gateways to other worlds. And unlike the simple magic spells, or complexly crafted portal gates, these touchstones could take an army across time and space directly to the throne room of a deity. Long ago, in ages past, they were used against the divine in the Battle of Evermore. What was once the greatest form of transportation in the cosmos, became a hazard, an open threshold that could deliver unbound wrath onto the doorstep of an opposing god. They had to be destroyed. There are no tales, no songs, or ancient tablets that depict the destruction. It is assumed that it happened quickly, out of desperation during an apocalyptic war. Now the ruins of the touchstones are scattered in the cosmos, some lost forever, but some are still out there. Floating along on chunks of broken planes, hidden deep in dungeons, an plunged into the depths of chaos. Who knows if they are can be activated again, perhaps some are still functioning, waiting to be used one last time.
