The River sawmill

This woodcutter camp is located on the northwest of the Gold Shell Coast and was mainly built to provide construction material for the rise of New Heaven.

It is built on the coast of the delta at two days away of boating from the city. This location up the stream allows the workers to simply throw the lumber and the trunks on the water and let them "gently" float toward the city or the different construction sites around the island.

The camp is equipped with a large circular saw powered by a large water mill. It was built in the early stage during the conquest of the Gold Shell Coast and was manned by many workers. Since the city is completed, it is now only occupied by a crew of lumberjacks who guard the place as much as they produce wood for the maintenance of the different locations of the human kingdom on this green hell.

My objective when I create maps is obviously to make great pieces of art but before all I’m a player, so I always try to create gameplay-oriented locations.

On this chapter of the quest your party of adventurers have received the mission to investigate the camp who became silent for a few weeks now. The builders noticed the lack of wood and alerted the authority.

Your players arrive on a little boat after a rough upstream travel to discover the mill completely desert, all doors closed, and no worker seem to be present on site.

The Game Master is free to decide why the workers disappeared, but clearly it smells like the Lizard folks lurking in the jungle might be responsible for that.

After a quick glance at the surroundings, it is apparent that the intel and information needed are inside the mill. The key to it is supposed to be hidden in the left bag close to the forest edge on a tree stump. Of course, when your players arrive close to the forest, the proper attack should begin. Maybe some arrows at first and a sneaky projectile, or if you prefer a direct massive attack of lizardmen. It is up to you.

The main objective on this battle map is to fend off a first group of a assailants, loot the mill, and fly away as fast as possible. When the second group of warriors start to close in, you might want to suggest to you players (if they didn’t realize that by themself) to climb up the massive trunk pile and bust them into water and ride them to escape the enemy’s grasp.

Needless to say, they will follow the party and fight them on the fragile balance of the floating trunks until the stream washes this strange payload close to the New Heaven walls.
