"I have to admit, the gastronomy of the great capitals of the kingdom can no longer satisfy me. Their flavours are still sublime, but for me, they no longer have the taste of discovery.
Yesterday, a man who had heard that I would pay a good price for any new recipe came to me with a piece of parchment and, above all, a story!
He was trembling, dirty and had just had his left arm amputated. I understood that he had been a soldier.
He told me that on the morning of a bloody battle, the survivors discovered in the pale mists of dawn a gigantic cauldron over 150 feet high, which had emerged during the night. Together, the wounded and the survivors instinctively made their way towards the colossal building from which, despite the distance, emanated muffled music and a comforting smell of stew that the soldier had named: The Cauldron of Eternal Hunger.
The interior is bathed in a dim, reddish glow. The meal was cooking in the belly of the monstrous cauldron. All aroundthe hall, tables where all the races of the world eat together. A feast where you can relax and dance without counting the time. Among the guests, he sees soldiers like himself, but also heroes. Mutilated and bleary-eyed, they have only one thing left to do: eat. The hostess is there, in the middle of the assembly. A majestic, blue-skinned ogress dancing on a giant spoon, gracefully moving from one side of the stewpot to the other. On her way, she greets, seduces, teases and, above all, invites to her table any soul who enters these parts! A service of little cauldrons on legs run in all directions. Serving, mincing and seasoning all the ingredients that the imposing chef orders them to prepare.
Everyone is required to offer something, however modest, to pass through the doors of this wonderful place. So are there many of these wonderful places? The stories are often foggy and the memories are mixed up when one evokes this tavern.
So it's decided, I'm leaving too. And if luck is on my side, I may one day come across the tavern of eternal hunger."
