Welcome to the Temple Of The Father Of Monsters! This ancient temple has long since been abandoned and lost to time, but that does not mean that nothing remains slumbering in its depths. This works as a temple of its own, or as an entrance hall or extra level to an existing dungeon. The dungeon is designed as a puzzle / boss dungeon; the main door is accessible at the top end of the map from the start, but cannot be picked or broken down. You can obviously use your own puzzles and bosses here, but to give you an idea, here is how I ran it in my game.
To the bottom left is a sliding statue puzzle, where the players had to activate levers hidden throughout the room to open and close gates to get a statue from one side of the smooth marble track to the other. Each lever activated more than one gate, requiring the precise sequence to be found. Upon reaching the dais to the north, the statue disappeared.
The bottom right room had the same goal; move the statue onto the dais. However, it is being held in place by rapidly regrowing plants and vines, and simply burning it away does not help. The party had to find the "heart bushes" of each plant, where the vines started, and kill them at the source to free the statue.
In the top two chambers, said statues were transported to the southern dais. The party then had to solve a reflecting light puzzle to redirect two beams of light onto the statues in each room. This could be via rotating statues, mirrors, changing light colours, whatever you want. When I ran it, when the light hit the statues, the statues broke and the large monster statues in each room came to life. The party was engaged in a mini boss battle; upon killing one of these creatures, the statue on the corresponding side of the main hall would begin to glow.
Upon killing both mini-bosses, the party had to return to the main hall and redirect the light from the two statues onto the central statue, which then came to life as another boss. In my game, it was a Hydra. Upon killing this creature, the main door to the north finally opened.
This is just what I did; of course, you can use it however you want!
