Description

"I believe it was here that our native phrase was coined: "Never is there a moment's peace by the sea."

Today, the Tartauran Freeport bustles with activity in the midsummer sun, attracting trade ships from the distant reaches of the sea. Spice merchants unload their galleys on the seaside quays, while on the south side fishing trawlers unload the morning's catch from their holds, preparing for their evening return to the waters. Even the larger shipwright's office is expecting special guests this day, a new commission from a privateering company to help avert the rise in pirating and smuggling in the surrounding archipelago.

With such daily activity, the city guard has been stretched thin. It should not be a surprise that such a place of wealth and trade with such largely overlooked areas would become a breeding ground for some less-than-legitimate dealings. While mostly safe by day, by night any less travelled alleys and routes in the port are ventured at one's own risk. It's not unusual to see unsavory characters out on the docks in the twilight hours, but it is curious that even in the daylight, armed thugs can be seen outside of Kieran's boathouse. Even more curious is the observation that the boathouse has been unused for years..."
