Rebels of the Drifting City is a one-shot adventure for the fifth edition of Dungeons & Dragons. The players and game master are dropped into the last days of a mysterious city in the sky. As members of a rebel cell, the players are working to finish their final mission and end the reign of a despotic group of wizards.

The Story

Millennia ago, a war between the gods released powerful magic that shattered the very structure of the world. Five powerful wizards joined their arcane skills together to save what remained of the inhabitants of the world. Wrenching a mountain of the hardest stone from the ground, they created a massive city in the sky, and floated it high above dangers below.

Centuries after the city’s creation, the Five have become despotic rulers of The Drifting City. They believe themselves to be the new gods of this world and as the Drifting City grows overcrowded, they show little concern for the well-being of the city’s people.

The citizens of the city have survived for generations with the few resources they have but in recent years things have gotten much worse. Most blame the Five and their dark machinations for the troubling times but there is little that can be done. The magical power of the Five is unmatched. Anyone who dares to challenge them is quickly eliminated.

Or so it was until the Lawless arose. This rebel group has managed to thrive and survive by compartmentalizing and isolating each cell of the group. One person or cell may be eliminated, but the group lives on. With great cost in blood and life, they’ve found out vital information and created a plan.

Tonight one cell begins a mission that will be their last, one way or another.

While created to be used with D&D 5E, and scaled for four players at level five, this adventure can be easily adapted to any fantasy role playing system.
