Every winter around the solstice holiday, purveyors of various fine goods and sumptuous treats gather in the town square and hock their wares to locals and travelers.
A small pool is placed in the town square and frozen over allowing residents to don bladed shoes and glide around the ice. Patrons sit at wooden tables eating grilled spiced meats, hearty stews, sweet pies, and candied apples. All around children play with the toys they’ve purchased from Mr. Curio, while the adults warm their bones with hot spiked cider and mulled wine.
Traveling merchants sell jars and pots, swords, shields, armor, and arrows, candles, candies, and toys. Everything appears safe for the moment and this seems to be a perfect place to rest, recharge, spend coin, and gather information.
Hail and well met traveler!
Towns are the best. They offer the possibility of interesting combat encounters, fun roleplay, headache inducing alterations to the DM's plot, and so much more. In a town anything can happen and we've created several interesting variations to reflect that fact.
