In a quiet out of the way corner of the world, in a small cove along a remote rocky coastline, is the last hold-out secret retreat of the chief of the local pirate slave trade. In the caverns below are cells where the 'special' slaves are kept, the ones that need a bit of extra special 'treatment' to make them behave....
Or some other setting and plot that takes your fancy :-)
I went and had a lot of fun with variations.
The maps are all separated into 2 halves that can be mixed and matched a bit to create 48 possible map variation/combinations:
* There are day, night & rain variations (there are even rain-drop splashes on the water),
* The water level in the cove comes in Low tide, High tide, Flood and none (in case you want the map based inland up in the hills instead of on the shore of a lake or ocean)
* The main building has 2 levels plus the roof, the other building has 1 level plus the roof.
* The cavern is only one level, but shows a shadow of the above ground in the 'dirt', with building/no building versions.
The above ground maps are A (top half) and B (bottom half. The cavern maps are C (top half) and D (bottom half)
For example:
* Any 'Day A...' will match with any 'Day B...'
* Any 'Night C...' will match with any Night D...'
* Any 'Rain A...' will match with any 'Rain B...'
etc
With the only exceptions being:
* that 'Rain D...' does not have a matching 'C' set and will match with Day_C...' instead.
* Creator kit versions are the top halfs only and will match up with the day version of their corresponding bottom map (B or D).
There is a visual Map guide included with the map files that helps explain what is going on a bit better.
but basically, day goes with day, night with night, rain with rain... and the rest is up to you and what sort of story you want to play out and how you want to use the changing weather and water level to create a sense to time passing, or add to the drama of a plot.
Creator kit versions are the 'clean' buildings and caverns. place the 'BASE' maps first, then any assets, then the 'OVERLAY' layer on top. this makes the wall shadows show on top of the assets, which makes the assets look like they are IN the room rather than hovering on top.
All maps, except the creator kit ones, come gridded as well as ungridded.
Happy adventuring & plotting everyone ...
