In the midst of autumn, the dry forest groans with the wind, and brittle leaves cover the ground. The air is crisp, and the descent toward the mountain base is steep and treacherous, with exposed roots and loose stones underfoot. After a difficult climb down, the travelers reach a natural passage where the mountain has been split in two by centuries of erosion.
The shortcut cuts straight through this dry gorge — a narrow path between tall, bare rock walls. At first glance, it seems like an easy route, much faster than circling around the mountain. But the loose stones above and the constant echo of falling gravel remind anyone passing through that this place could collapse at any moment.
The party must take this path to make an urgent delivery before nightfall. The client won’t wait, and there’s no time to go around. But the farther they go, the more they notice some of the fallen rocks don’t seem to have dropped naturally… as if something — or someone — is lurking among the cliffs, watching.
