Lochlyn IX is a combination research outpost, medical facility, and defense platform with both civilian and military duties. The habitable areas of the station are divided into sections connected by a transit tube system using what are basically spherical elevators. Due to the rock's rotation "down" is always away from the core (out into space) and the station is at zero G along the axis of rotation.
There are four primary areas around the transit ring. The command center houses both military and civilian authorities as well as a computer research lab. Opposite this is the biological sciences wing with a small hospital and large laboratory. On either side of the ring are towers housing general quarters (one side civilian and the other military) and off-duty areas. At the center of the asteroid is a large reactor and energy physics lab. There are also vaults and utility areas buried in the rock as well as access points for the hangar, cargo bay, and shuttle docking areas.
