The Overgrown Courtyard [33 x 44]

What does this area have to offer?

The courtyard that lays before you has grown wild in its dormant state. Rubble lines the broken and cracked paved flooring with cracks tearing holes into the stairs. Two ponds sit on either side of the courtyard and have now become how to froglife in the murky algae waters that support the drifting lilypads on its surface. A beam of life streaks through the opposing entranceway; perhaps an exit from this structure, or an even greater light source of friend or foe. What dangers could you face in the courtyard?

The courtyard could be home to any number of dangers, but those only get more exaggerated under the cover of night. When night falls and the beacon of light no longer streaking itself through the archway, the shadows can harbour shelter to any number of foe, but could also make your approach easier if you know how to move in the shadows. The courtyard though could also be more dangerous with the addition of further damage to the area causing cracks that lead into the void below. What lies below the courtyard? That is something your adventures may not wish to find out, especially during night when the dangers could be hard to detect. Alternatively, the courtyard could have been taken over by a group of cultists or other nefarious folk who have converted a once place of beauty, into one now of blood and suffering. The pools have now become pits for sacrifices that have occurred, and a mysterious rune in the centre could herald an even greater darkness than that of the night.
