Perfect for re-visiting at different times and setting up different plots in each era.
Phase 1: Set in the times before the cursed swamps, when all was light and the forest was filled with music. There is a small thorp of 6 houses (Otsutan) with 2 outlying farms. In the forest there is a building that has expanded many times over the years to become a small school for bards who come to study and explore the singing stones cave in the middle of the forest.
In a circle around the Cave entrance are 8 giant standing stones with carved faces on one side ... they may or may not have something to do with keeping the cave 'in tune'
Phase 2 - Dark: Is the dark times, when the Great Heart Oak was taken (cut down by some fool wanting to have all its healing abilities to themselves), resulting in a curse. Swamps rose, sinking the Bard's school and isolating the Singing Stones Cave, Blood pines grew around the swamps and the houses of Otsutan got up and walked away. The NW road became the main road, with a new travelers inn / waystation and a long row of barrier stones have been set up along the edge of the high ground to keep the curse at bay.
Phase 2 - Light: Is the same era as the Dark version, except the blood pines are a normal pine tree colour and the area is not as dark, gloomy and cursed looking
Phase 3: Is the final era. The curse has been lifted by some wandering adventurers. The swamps have soaked away, a new Heart Oak has been planted and the thorp of Otsutan and 1 of the outlying farms has been re-built. The Bards School is currently a small camp and may be the beginnings of a new school.
Of course, those are just my ideas for the area and eras :-)
Have fun plotting Otsutan into your world
