The road in the lowlands can be a good place for an ambush. Beware of this.
The map is limited on two sides, and the road gives the players a clear understanding of where to move to get out of the battle. This is especially useful in encounters where the goal of the group is to move from one point to another rather than looking for battles. For example: to escort a merchant wagon. Most players will enter the fight as heroes, but remind them that they are on a mission. Damage the goods in the wagon or hurt the merchant. Maybe then the heroes will understand that the main thing is the protection of the employer and his things, and not an attack for the sake of killing and experience.
