Merchant city-states of the Jeweled Coast have a long and storied history. One of more prominent figures of that history was the man called Leopold Cavrani, who had established the Republic of Cerehoi and introduced within a law permitting anyone, with due permits from the city masters, to settle their disputes via duels. These went from personal insults, to disagreements over trading bargains struck, and only the parties initiating could fight. No seconds or champions were permitted. The practice soon became incredibly popular and spread through the city-states and their colonies abroad, mostly due to younger generations seeing it as a way to gain prestige which would avail them in their mercantile pursuits. It remains a cherished tradition even today and the amphitheatre of Cerehoi is often the location of where most prominent of duels are conducted.
