Guards look down from behind stone crenelations atop the gatehouse, beyond which the imposing projection of wealth and power can be beheld in all its grandeur. Blemished by a long and withstanding tradition of exploitation and suffering, the building’s magnificence is contrasted by the harsh landscape below, and its hospitality contrasted by the cruelty of its masters. The lord of this palace, a calculating and unyielding efreeti, awaits within.
