Japan's yokai live in various places around the island. The forest are home to many woodland creatures that influenced many well known yokai. While tanukis are actual animals, as yokai, they gain the ability to shapeshift and speak like a human. Once these creatures survive over 100 years, they gain super natural powers and spells. The same can be said for mujina and the kitsune.
Very few yokai are as dastardly as kistune. These tricksters are bewitching charmers but also deadly. Still, there might be a couple that are far more compassionate than you might think at first glance. A number have helped Japan's society and there are some that serve Inari, a god agriculture and wealth.
