A party of adventurers arrive in the hamlet of Alabhy, home to the last hunters and woodsmen yet to abandon the Morskalt Tundra and its deepening winters. At the local tavern they discover a fisherman has suffered a grisly demise, and villagers now point the finger at local wolf packs or nightmarish monsters glimpsed in the Jilting Forest.
Heading out to investigate, the party immediately cross paths with a wolf pack led by a huge and seemingly intelligent alpha. And if that wasn't enough, they are then pressured to pay a toll by the money-grubbing reeve and his two goons, camped out by the stone bridge outside the village.
Should they overcome these obstacles, the party will arrive at Deathcatch Lake, where the fisherman met his untimely end. Here they will find evidence of vermin and fungal creatures spawned by evil beyond the lake. They must cross cautiously, and reach the north shore where the Jilting Forest begins.
Traveling through the icy, gloom-soaked forest, they arrive at last at Bleak Tooth, a massive hollow tree cocooned by ice and strange spiderwebs. Inside they come face-to-face with the mysterious shepherd of these spiders - an ettercap who fiercely protects the dryad at the heart of the tree. Only by reasoning with the dryad, or uncovering its tragic tale, will the party stand a chance of lifting the curse before all is ended in chilling violence.
Frost Bite is an action-horror adventure for a party of four to six adventurers of levels 1 to 2.
The story emphasizes wilderness survival, fey curses, and moral dilemmas. There will also be plenty of combat against roving wolves, corrupted fey, and monstrous spiders.
A balance of character classes is encouraged, while bearing in mind that the Morskalt Tundra is an unforgiving frontier. Characters ill-equipped for the punishing cold, or ill-suited to dealing with stoic locals, will not have a good time here.
Finally, what lies at the heart of the all-consuming winter is a fey curse placed upon two lovers. The theme of tragic love, and the despair that turns us cold, should be woven throughout the story and the deeds of the adventuring party.
