This addon map pack includes five richly illustrated encounter maps, one regional exploration map, and a page full of themed tokens depicting the tropical setting of Malady Island. The maps feature artistically incorporated gridlines in areas where players are likely to traverse, reminiscent of the commercially printed battlemaps used in in-person tabletop games. The tokens include a variety of creatures like giant insects, spiders, and lizards, along with objects such as thatched-roof huts, a campfire, wooden canoes, a fallen log, spiderwebs, a stone circle, and a fish-drying rack. Where applicable, the maps include line-of-sight barriers for dynamic lighting.
*Includes line-of-sight barriers for dynamic lighting.
Besides the artwork, Tropical Island Sandbox features a neatly organized library of system-neutral journal entries describing Malady Island and its inhabitants, including members of a malign cult who worship an evil spirit at an obsidian shrine in the shape of a colossal spider. The library also includes five encounters, one for each encounter map. Taken as a whole, the encounters form a mini-adventure called The Shrine of the Obsidian Spider. Additional journal entries include exploration guidelines, magic items, random tables for boons and banes (hazards), plus a list of adventure hooks to get your players to the island. For your convenience, there is a second instance of each encounter map, pre-populated with tokens and notes corresponding to the included encounters.
All of the written content is system-agnostic, geared toward d20-based game systems, and can be scaled for PCs of varying levels. Stat blocks for specific game systems are not included. Instead, the relevant journal entries steer you in the right direction for stats or help you determine them on the fly. To assist with scalability, a basic system for setting difficulty levels for your PCs' current power level is also included.
