The Dungeon of Many Rats is a Fifth Edition adventure designed and optimized for four players of 1st level. This adventure works well set in a large city or small township for an Old School Revival styled campaign.
A dungeon of underground sewer tunnels hides treasures, a maniacal sociopath, and an army of rats.
Rodney Whitnal was always a strange and unsettling man. Many who knew of him said he was a quiet person who was just “born bad” and people usually gave him a wide berth. Rodney didn’t mind this isolation however, he never liked other people either, he hated them in fact. Rodney saw everyone else as selfish and cruel so he decided the only beings he would relate to were animals, specifically rats. He had a way with the creatures, they took a shine to him: fetching him food and coin to survive in the harsh city. At some point, while he dwelled in the city proper, Rodney was confronted by his landlord for the constant vermin swarms that followed him around and occupied his room. The landlord threatened Rodney and began to kill his rats in from of him. Rodney, being a large man, grabbed the landlord in anger and quickly snapped his neck with his bare hands. Without another word Rodney left his old home and wandered into the sewers, settling into a place his rats had found for him: A dungeon below the streets. Rodney, now dubbed Rat Lord, hides from the world waiting for a time when his vermin family will not be treated as pests.
