A sea of coarse, white sand stretches as far as the eye can see. Overhead, the angry, merciless sun beats down on the land, ruthlessly eradicating creatures caught maladapted or unprepared. Living things that call this hell-on-earth home are either evolved to withstand the desert’s cruelty or too insane to care.

Despite the unwelcoming environment, the desert hides relics of a forgotten kingdom beneath its sands, too. Magically guarded temples, obscured by powerful illusion magic, conceal great wonders within their untouched corridors and chambers. A forgotten mine, once the source of the fallen kingdom’s immeasurable wealth, offers a labyrinthine path through a treacherous mountain range. And forty miles north of the desert’s southernmost edge, a great pyramid of gleaming silver stands triumphant amid the dunes. Within its bowels, a vengeful undead king seethes, anxious to wreak havoc on the world.

This wasteland offers much for those who dare trek through its nearly lifeless tracts. Fortune seekers, bandits, and brave traders see just as much opportunity here as others see danger. Powerful warlords recognize the desert’s value as a geopolitical foothold to both the northern and southern kingdoms that grip its borders. Finally, adventurers who are willing to accept and overcome the challenges this land presents will find themselves wealthy beyond their wildest dreams—so long as they don’t die from thirst, first.

About this Adventure

The Burning Borderlands: Riddle of the Silver Pyramid is a Fifth Edition adventure optimized for four to six 5th-level characters who will reach 11th level by the adventure’s conclusion. The player characters are the heroes of the story; this book describes the adventure’s villains and monsters that the heroes must overcome and the locations they must explore to bring the adventure to a successful conclusion.

This addon presents The Burning Borderlands as a self-contained campaign setting on which you can base adventures of your own. All pertinent details about the setting are covered here, with room left to add new locations and villains of your own design.

Although this adventure works best as a thrilling, high-paced treasure hunt in the forbidding desert sands of the Burning Borderlands, each part of this adventure is designed to work on its own. Remember: it’s your game. You’re free to add, remove, or edit any part you like as befits your campaign and players.

Most of the locations described in this book can be used as stand-alone adventure sites. With a little effort and a few name changes, you can take these adventure locations out of the Burning Borderlands and transplant them into other campaign worlds, including your own.
