The Empress’ Bodyguard’s famed ferocity and savagery is no accident. To get an invitation to be considered, warriors must prove their worth in battle for Imperial Army and then prove themselves under the Empress’ impassive gaze.
As serious as it is for the combatants, to the honoured guests of the Martial Court, there is revelry, decadence and the chance to watch the Empire’s finest do battle from a comfortable balcony. The Court’s guests must be on their best behaviour. It is not unheard of for those who, for whatever reason, earn imperial displeasure to be sent to ‘challenge’ the bodyguard for the crowd’s entertainment.
