"Perhaps the most curious element of the discovery of the buried statue was that no excavation had to happen for this relic to surface. An unfortunate caravaneer lost several of their oxen as the sand collapsed inward into the chasm below, bubbling almost as if the mass of sand were water being put to boil.

Once notified, The Great Malik demanded it's investigation. As the true excavation went to work, it was found that the head may only be the beginning, the rest buried under subterranean water and sandstone.

The next few months will be arduous, and I have been given an allotment of workers to begin reinforcing the walls of the cavern, as well as replenishments as they eventually succumb to sand collapses and accidents common with such ventures. I have assured The Great Malik that such sacrifices will be payed back tenfold, as there's no telling what wonders accompany this monolith of old."
