🏰 ILLMARROW
Roiling Maw, The Hatchery & Lurer’s Bell

We descend deeper into Illmarrow Castle.

Beneath the stone halls and beneath the guarded gates lies something far worse than undead servitude. Here, the Queen’s dominion becomes experimental. Industrial. Wrong.

This pack expands the ecosystem of Illmarrow with three interconnected locations that reveal the Castle’s most disturbing secret.

🧪 The Hatchery [32x32]

Just below Illmarrow Castle lies a forsaken laboratory where foul experiments are conducted in secret.

The Hatchery is a full-blown magitek abomination lab — part arcane workshop, part surgical theatre, part industrial processing plant.

Green vats bubble with unstable life.
Specimens hang suspended in containment rigs.
Strange pipes and discard systems connect the facility to the depths below.

Inspired by a blend of:

Mad scientist laboratories

Magitek industry

Eberron-style House Vadalis experimentation

A dark Resident Evil atmosphere — but in a high fantasy setting

Includes:

Main laboratory chamber

Containment room

Discard pipe system

Neutral-background variants (perfect as a Vadalis facility or arcane research center)

🕳 Roiling Maw [45x45]

Below the Hatchery lies the Roiling Maw — the place where the failed creations are thrown away.

The map is split in two distinct sections:

Guarded Discard Zone

The pipe descending from the Hatchery above

Castle Guards maintaining control

Industrial platforms and processing machinery

The Old Catacombs

Ancient crypt tunnels reclaimed by corruption

Toxic runoff and unstable growths

Failed specimens that survived… and adapted

Some of the sentient “Botched Ones” crawl upward toward the Hanging Bowels.
Others remain below, stalking the catacombs — feral, hungry, resentful.

The ecosystem of Illmarrow continues to emerge:

Bloodsails Pirates in Port Cairn

Pilgrims ascending Grim Ascent

Undead servitude in the Hanging Bowels

And now… the discarded creations of the Queen herself

Remember the massive shell-creatures in the Abyssal Approach?
Would it surprise you to learn where they were born?

🔔 Lurer’s Bell [30x30]

At last, we step inside Illmarrow Castle proper.

Overlooking the raging and frigid sea below hangs an unsettling bell suspended from an abnormally large spine.

The sound of the Bell carries across the waves like a siren song.

Ships that stray too close:

Lose their way

Dash upon the jagged rocks below

Feed the Queen’s undead ranks

This is also the domain of the Castle’s undertaker — perhaps a twisted, hunched undead custodian who tends to the remains of those lured by the Bell.

A sinister location perfect for:

Climactic confrontations

Nautical horror

Dark ritual encounters

Atmospheric boss fights

What This Pack Expands

Illmarrow is no longer just a haunted castle.

It is becoming a living, decaying ecosystem:

Pirates in service of the Queen

Pilgrims seeking Grim Ascent

Undead servitude in the Bowels

Experimental horrors beneath the stone

And something industrially wrong at its core

The Castle is not merely ruled.

It is fed.
