There's more than one way to have a House Boat, and here's the second!
Instead of a lazily floating houseboat moored up on the bank of a river, what if the adventurer decided to settle down on a quiet beach somewhere, tie up his ship, and settle down? This ship is a more permanent fixture than a standard houseboat, being dragged up on shore, moored up and with an actual house built on the back end. What lies in the forest? Is there a city nearby, or is this the home of a castaway on a desert island making the most of it? Up to you!
