Sakura Trees
Cherry Blossom, or Sakura, is the flower of the Prunus trees, not the tree itself.
There are hundreds of variations of these trees, some are cultivated for their fruits. Others, even though they might have small fruits, are purely ornamental, like the ones seen here. These trees are prone to mutation, so they are hard to cultivate and their bloom period may vary.
Once a year, these trees bloom, between March and April for the Northern Hemisphere, or between September and October for the Southern Hemisphere. The blooming process is rapid, and only lasts for a week, when all flowers fall. This event may represent the ephemeral nature of life for some cultures.
During this week, people may gather around these trees to enjoy the bright white and pink flower falling views.
