If one is wealthy or well-connected enough, they may receive an invitation to the Atrium. Though lacking a title, the Master of the Atrium has influence which cannot be overstated. The invitation is a summons in all but name, defied only by the foolhardy.
Through an opulent entrance, guests are welcomed with fanfare and guided to their destination by fawning servants. Serene and private, though only yards away from the stench, grim faces and mud of the city streets, it may as well be another world. Yet here the fortunes of the city and its people are negotiated and decided, occasionally war is declared.
There is another less heralded entrance and exit, for some less genteel, who the Master speaks to about more unsavoury plans, those that keep his reign intact. These meetings benefit more from the privacy than the serenity. Occasionally they provide fertilizer for the exotic plants which abound here.
