Whether you are role-playing in a grim-dark dystopian universe or a futuristic science-fiction setting, these cyborgs are ready for battle.
Kappa squad took position over the cresting hill, their cybernetically enhanced eyes zoomed in and surveyed the “target”. It was a known insurrectionist holdout. Their ramshackle vehicles with top-mounted cannons formed a perimeter around a small civilian settlement. The insurrectionists often used the population as cover. Suddenly data streams of information began downloading into the squad’s skull-chips, their bio-computers quickly began to sort through it all and compartmentalize the important facts: enemy numbers, range of their armaments, projected tactical movements, structural integrity analysis, etc. At this point the training exercise would be considered complete, but the sergeant paused as new orders began to download. As each member of the scout party received the same instructions, the sergeant noticed their brain-chemistry indicators report an increase of anxiety. He activated his emotional suppressor and ordered the rest of the squad to do the same. This was never meant to be a training exercise. His computer memory stated clearly that this was a military operation all along, but his human brain remembered facts differently. He was sure that hours ago when the operation began it was meant to be an exercise, but now it clearly stated it was an operation. As the emotional suppressor did its work and released its cocktail of brain-chemistry altering drugs, together with his anxiety, his doubts faded away and he became certain that the computer data wouldn't lie. Only humans make errors. Given the new information about the enemy’s battle capability it was most logical to simply wipe them all out right now. If it could, his human brain would scream. It reminded him of risks, civilian casualties, and humanitarian violations, but his computer brain dutifully suppressed these concerns and filed such thoughts under "irrelevant information". The more he thought about it the less it mattered until finally the human part of his brain was in torpor and the computer was in control. He gave the order to attack.
Are they humans? Are they robots? Are they brainwashed machines who blindly follow orders? You decide!
