Dragons and Heroes

Whether you are surviving in a Dark world of low magic or questing in a land of high adventure, dragons are a staple in fantasy. Here are some more.

Powerful and majestic, with gleaming scales that reflect sunlight, metallic dragons in flight are a wonder to behold.
Good natured and wise, these awe-inspiring beings carry within them a divine spark. The same kind of power that was used by the gods to shape the world, runs through their speech as water from a fountain. It is no coincidence that the language of arcane magic is draconic.

Dragons & Heroes is a token set that is intended as a companion and a sequel to my original Dragons & Minions token set. It contains exactly what its title promises:

Dragons of Five distinct metallic colours and my version of a platinum Dragon God!
Draconic knights. Heroes of the realm with a virtuous nature.
Draconoids. Not real dragons but dragon-adjacent creatures.
Kobolds! Yup. More kobolds.
Heroes! Brave adventurers or perhaps dragons in disguise? Who can know?
Villains. Some of which you may recognize as fitting in with the minions of my previous draconic set.

Metallic dragons are very interesting monsters. They are similar in size and shape to other dragons but can easily be distinguished from their colorful cousins by the shine of their scales and their metallic sheen. Tending to live in the same places as chromatics, an intense rivalry exists between the two kinds as they war not only over territory and treasure but also for ideological reasons and those reasons are what makes them interesting.
The opposite of the evil chromatic dragons, metallic dragons are genuinely good creatures. Unlike humanoid races who have free will and a choice in questions of morality, metallic dragons are gifted with a perfect understanding of the difference between good and evil and cultivate a sense of objective morality that can seem strict and very rigid to mere mortals. This often inflexible way of draconic thinking is the main cause of conflict between these creatures and humanoids.
In the games we play it can often be hard to justify a conflict between two sides that see themselves as being “good”. Metallic dragons have the luxury of knowing that what they are doing is objectively a good thing. I suppose that in some respects they are like a well meaning A.I. that has gone rogue and is doing evil things out of a desire to do good.
At least that’s how I see them and how I portray them in my games. They can be villains whose motivations are very noble. Like a gold dragon taking over a dwarven stronghold because it sensed that the dwarfs were about to uncover a great evil sleeping under the mountain.

I made these tokens mostly for my friends and players in my games, hence why there is such a large selection of heroic adventurer types. The metallic dragons are all unique and very distinct from each other. As with my Dragons & Minions, I made sure that these monsters got the attention to detail that they deserve and aren’t simple colour-swapped versions of the same design...okay fine the faerie dragon is totally a palette swapped version of the same monster but in my defense they totally just do that in the game.
