Have you ever tried to run an encounter that involved a lot of enemy units, and found that it was a huge chore to move all the different units around, or that the initiative order became unwieldy? We've created new unit types for these kinds of scenarios to help you make your large-scale battles faster, easier, and more manageable.
A formation is a new unit type, like swarms or vehicles. A formation is a group of creatures like a swarm. Unlike a swarm however a formation is organised and typically composed of intelligent, often humanoid, creatures. Examples of a typical formation might be a group of guards or a huge gang of goblins. Formations do away with the cumbersome task of managing vast numbers of creatures (and therefore turns in the initiative order) in favour of using cones, zones, and attacks that target multiple units to give them a greater influence on the battlefield.
This is the first in a series of addons that will collect several new unit types into a neat little package for you to deploy in your games. Each addon will be themed around either a specific creature type (undead, fiends, or goblins as examples) or will collect units often found in the same kind of terrain. This addon focuses on creatures found in the depths of the ocean or in aquatic environments like lakes and swamps further inland; examples include mobs of merfolk, bands of bullywugs, and shoals of sahuagin! Perfect for use with Ghosts of Saltmarsh or Call from the Deep!
