The rider wakes, the bells will toll. Break the rite and save your soul!
When graves begin opening beneath the Orange Mist and hoofbeats echo through the autumn woods, rumors spread of an abandoned chapel where the Pumpkultists have gathered once again. The adventurers follow the trail toward the Chapel of the Headless Horseman, where forgotten harvest rites, disturbed graves, and old execution songs point toward a resurrection already underway. Beyond the chapel waits Pumpkin Gallows, where five ritual pumpkins burn beneath the moon and an ancient rider prepares to return.
After the events of Zumpkin Hollow, surviving Pumpkultists gather around an abandoned chapel dedicated to one of their faith’s oldest champions, the Headless Horseman. Graves are disturbed, Orange Mist spreads through the grounds, and old harvest rites return as the cult prepares a resurrection at the execution site where the Horseman first lost his head.
The adventurers must push through the chapel grounds, solve ritual puzzles, uncover the Horseman’s history, and disrupt the ceremonies feeding his return. Their discoveries become increasingly important as they move toward Pumpkin Gallows, where five ritual pumpkins and five carved runes sustain the Horseman during a difficult final battle.
Reap What You Sow is a 5th edition Halloween adventure built around environmental puzzles, ritual disruption, supernatural horror, and a puzzle-driven boss fight. The adventure begins at the Chapel of the Headless Horseman, where the party encounters mirrored gardens, corrupted graves, Orange Mist, Pumpkultist defenders, and a series of clues tied directly to the Horseman’s death and burial.
The party can earn Severing Marks by solving major puzzles and disrupting important rituals. These limited advantages reward careful exploration and give the group additional ways to control the Headless Horseman during the final confrontation. An optional crypt puzzle provides further insight into his history and can weaken the resurrection before the party reaches the gallows.
The final battle takes place at Pumpkin Gallows, where the Headless Horseman is sustained by five ritual pumpkins tied to five runes. The party must identify the correct connections, interrupt the chanting priests, destroy the ritual anchors, and survive the Horseman’s attacks as each destroyed pumpkin strips away another layer of his protection.
