The Weeping Torii

Author: Kelfecil's Tales

Addon: Content which can be added into any game - new or existing!

Price: $7.99

A mountain pass once blessed with pilgrim songs now weeps black tears. Spirits of sorrow haunt the torii gates, twisting memories into whispers that lure the living astray. From a forest path heavy with loss, to a narrow mountain trail where dreams are devoured, and finally to a cliffside shrine where a Kamaitachi guards grief itself, the adventurers must carry the weight of mourning. Will they calm the spirits, cut them down, or be consumed by sorrow?

Adventure Description

The Weeping Torii challenges players to face grief embodied in restless yokai. Beginning at the gates above Awase, the party contends with lantern spirits, twisted gourds, and dream eaters that devour memory itself. Sayaka, a mourning geisha, guides them while struggling against her own despair, tied directly to the Grief Counter mechanic that tracks sorrow throughout the adventure. Their path culminates at the shrine where a Kamaitachi, a whirlwind of blades, waits in a multi-phase battle balanced on the cliff’s edge.

This adventure features roleplay-driven resolutions, encounters where calming yokai can be as vital as slaying them, and a unique Grief Counter system that shapes NPCs, outcomes, and the final epilogue. Sayaka’s fate and the villagers’ recovery rest on how much grief the adventurers ease or deepen.

The Weeping Torii is a 5th edition, level 6 folklore-inspired adventure set in the Lands of Midori. Designed for 1–2 sessions of play (4–6 hours total), it blends sorrowful yokai folklore, tactical combat, and roleplay choices that alter the story’s ending. Perfect for groups who enjoy atmospheric storytelling, mechanics that reflect emotional stakes, and boss fights where the environment and spirits of grief shape every decision.

This adventure can be adapted to your own campaign, played as a one-shot, or be part of the Starlight Chronicles setting that connects everything made by Kelfecil's Tales.
