When Midori’s Lantern Festival turns to horror, drowned villagers claw their way from the river and a spirit of grief awakens. The River Bride, once bound by vows and remembrance, now seeks to drag the living into her sorrow. From a shrine under siege, to the withered Island of Knots, and finally to the roaring Waterfall Shrine, the adventurers must choose: restore memory, grant mercy, or strike her down.

Adventure Description

Song of the River Bride challenges players to face the consequences of neglect and grief. Beginning at a riverside festival, the party must defend villagers from drowned servants, confront yokai drawn to unraveling vows, and finally face the River Bride herself in a desperate battle before the falls. Each choice echoes forward, shaping whether the spirit is calmed, destroyed, or left to fester.

Features escalating encounters with drowned and yokai, meaningful skill challenges tied to Midori’s temple traditions, and a climactic boss fight with multiple paths to resolution.

Song of the River Bride is a 5th edition, level 7 folklore-inspired adventure set in the Lands of Midori. Designed for a full session of play, it blends atmospheric horror, spiritual dilemmas, and tactical combat. Perfect for groups who enjoy yokai folklore, thematic skill challenges, and finales where compassion can be as powerful as steel.
