Hags of Ruin is a monster supplement for 5e that presents hags not as isolated swamp crones or recycled spellcasters, but as structured manifestations of tragic emotion. Instead of relying on a single generic hag stat block, this book provides six complete and escalating emotional triads: Hunger, Grief, Anger, Envy, Despair, and Desire—each expressed through three distinct roles: the Voice, the Maw, and the Keeper.
These are not covens. They are emotional fractures made manifest.
The intent of this product is thematic escalation and structured corruption. Each triad embodies a specific form of ruin and functions as a unified threat. The Voice tempts, manipulates, and destabilizes. The Maw devastates and consumes. The Keeper anchors the manifestation and prevents its collapse. When united, each triad activates a shared Triad of Ruin feature that intensifies its emotional domain and reshapes the battlefield.
Geography, cosmology, and origin are intentionally undefined. These stat blocks can represent village-level tragedy, noble downfall, religious collapse, or kingdom-scale obsession. They do not replace traditional hags—they expand them, offering structure and emotional identity where there was once only folklore menace.
Whether these manifestations are rare catastrophes or recurring consequences of mortal failure is left entirely in the GM’s hands.
