Adventure Summary

Beneath the shadowed boughs of Latakar’s blighted woods, hunters vanish and animals are butchered, their blood drained for a ritual older than memory. The Severed call upon the party to march with them, to face the crimson glow of a mine where the Sanguine Rot has taken root. Each step along the Carrion Trail leads deeper into horror, where the land itself feels eager to consume.

The Carrion Trail pits the players against the relentless spread of the Rot. From forests strewn with carcasses, to a night of broken rest under constant assault, and finally to a mine overtaken by crimson corruption, the adventure drives the party toward a climactic battle with the Maw of the Rot. Alongside the Severed, they must endure overwhelming ambushes, survive exhaustion, and face the embodiment of hunger made flesh.

Features a desperate dungeon crawl with attrition mechanics, escalating Rot Exposure, and a final confrontation against a nightmare birthed from sacrifice.

The Carrion Trail is a 5th edition, level 6 grimdark horror adventure set in the Sanguine Rot’s festering domain. Designed for 1 to 2 sessions of play, it combines environmental dread, punishing ambushes, and a finale where the players must strike down the Maw of the Rot or see the forest consumed. Perfect for groups seeking tense survival, grim folklore atmosphere, and high-stakes tactical combat.

This adventure can be adapted to your own campaign, played as a one-shot, or be part of the Starlight Chronicles setting that connects everything made by Kelfecil's Tales.
