The planes are frighteningly diverse. Jump through one portal and you’re dealing with a devil trying to chain your eternal soul. Say the wrong word and you’re thrown into a world of rigid automatons confused by your soft exterior.
What’re you bringing to the table? Here’s a peek inside the codex.
108 Subclasses: Each base 5th Edition class has one subclass per plane across nine unique planes of existence,
totaling 108 playable subclasses.
18 Species: Each of the Codex’s nine planes contains two unique species, including variant rules or subspecies options for each. That's 18 brand new species!
36 Spells: For each of the nine planes covered in the Codex, this book provides unique and thematic spells tied to them.
54 Feats: The dangerous planar landscape demands special skills. Each of the nine planes includes up to three feats.
The Planar Codex details player options for nine different otherworldly planes that could find a home in any campaign setting. They are:
The Scintillating Fey Courts: Featuring hand-painted forests, grand castles from the pages of storybooks, and fantastical monsters beneath every child’s bed, the fey courts are as inspiring as they are insidious.
The Shadowscape: Within this cold, bleak realm of negative emotion and metaphysical darkness, you could find yourself stranded upon a lake of frozen regrets or forgotten in a cavern of broken promises.
The Liminal Plane of Spirits: Every mortal soul passes through the Liminal Plane before finding its final resting place amidst the planes. All souls, from monarchs to peasants, float through this space between worlds, made equal in their transience.
The High Heavens: Winged angels take flight from shining silver towers. Farmers, happy and healthy, work perfect rows of crops that will never know disease. The High Heavens is paradise for those willing to abide by the rigid tenets of angelic order.
The Bright Wylds: Elf children lithely spring from branch to branch in their canopy village. Far below, a stalking horse-sized panther pounces on a verdant elk. The Bright Wylds are unfettered by the chains of civilization.
The Iron Hells: Souls are crushed under the weight of tyrannical industry to fuel endless fiendish armies. Plotting devils rule over this soot-choked plane from behind impenetrable iron fortresses.
The Pit: This endless abyss is home to every imaginable torture and sadistic excess, and many that are beyond mortal ken. Those lost to The Pit cry out for an end that will never come.
The Immutable City of Cogs: A vast urban landscape of workshops, laboratories, and universities define this plane. Living automatons dash efficiently about their busy lives aboard perfectly-scheduled living cog-trains in pursuit of The Singular Truth.
The Discordant Expanse: At the unknowable convergence of all places, there is a great unfettered plane of raw possibility. Anything that can exist, or even be thought to exist, does so within the Discordant Expanse, albeit briefly. Most who catch a glimpse of it are driven mad as they’re confronted with all realities existing within every moment.
